Arabian vs Persian

From time to time, I read An Emirati's Thoughts blog. A post dated on 26th of Dec 09 called “While this happens ..” dragged my attention but what dragged it more is a comment to this topic that was post by Jassim.

“While this happens…” talks about the name of the gulf, is it the Arabian Gulf as I & most of the Arabs wish or is it the Persian Gulf as the Iranian & most of the world calls it.

Thought most of the nations live around the Gulf are Arabs the Iranians claim that the Persian Gulf was named this way many years ago when Persia was a superpower. Jassim does seem to have a support to the Iranians as they want to call it the Persian Gulf. He says “the name is not the issue as long as power rules by the end of the day, power is not always about war, fight and conflict sometimes it's just history and dominance.” On the other hand if it is the matter of being a superpower then we should call it the Islamic Gulf as islam ruled this place over a thousand year.

---- http://aethoughts.blogspot.com/ ----
“While this happens…”
Our Iranian Friend's Grandest battles are:Calling the Gulf "Persian"

Did you know that the manipulation of the internet to serve Persian Ultra-Nationalism has permeated to wikipedia ? Supposedly the UAE plays in a cup called the "Gulf cup of Nations" while as you read in the link, the Iranian Government has protested to the UAE regarding this fact.
Of course, in typical Iranian style since our friend the Shah: Kick around the people, and then rile them with ultranationalist sentiments and let them vent their anger at the Arabs. And even regular Iranians that hate the regime are claiming that the people kicking the others around in the street are Arabs. The Ultra-Nationalistic lying to ones-self is a sick symptom of denial and "exporting" the causes of your problems to the Arabs.
The Gulf remains Arabian until Iran ends its illegal occupation of the 3 Islands.

Suzanne Mubarak On CNN MME

It’s very hard for a person to get out from the legacy left by the one who was occupying this position. This is the case of the current Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak. Though she is occupying this first lady position since 1981 when Anwar Sadat former Egyptian president was assassinated at his 1973 victory anniversary. Dr. Jehan el Sadat was Egypt former first lady for almost 10 years. At that time she was more than a first lady. Many say that she had an influence over her husband. She played a key role in reforming Egypt’s civil rights and till now she is an active former first lady.

In my opinion the husband Hosni Mubarak did a great job to have his own legacy too comparing to his former bosses both Jamal Abdel Nasser & Anwar Sadat.

Good Year For UAE Diplomacy

For many years our UAE foreign affair ministers worked in the shadow moreover our foreign relations were based on reactions with few exceptions. We mostly coped with GCC oriented diplomacy under the Saudis leadership. The Saudis are the rock of GCC diplomacy & when the Qataris tried to stand up against it, they adopted an extreme radical one. The one that host the Americans, contaminate the Lebanese & collaborate with the Iranians-Syrian alliance. However after some ups and downs Qatar returned to be under the Saudi shadow. The Emirati foreign policy was & still under the shadow of its powerful neighbor the kingdom of Saudi Arabia but 2009 is significantly different. Though part of UAE diplomacy is still under the Saudi shadow, 2009 showed us that there is a new diplomacy that seeks only the UAE interests. Simple comparison between the activities of the first UAE foreign affair minister Ahmed khalifa Al Suwaidi & the current minister Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed will make this view obvious.

We could have long debates over the reasons but who thought that one day the UAE will pullout from it’s much beloved project, the GCC currency union. And by doing so who thought that the UAE could stand the angry fires from the Saudis via a strong but quiet diplomacy. I still remember the 40 km line of tracks waiting under bad weather conditions for weeks just to pass the Saudi’s boarder.

Also 2009 was the beginning of the strategic military alliance with France. As a result, France launched its first military base in the Arabian Gulf few miles away from the Strait of Hormuz. Peace Camp base, a base that consist of naval force, army division and the air force. This Peace Camp comes just few months after French air force joined the US air force installation in Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi.

Then nuclear program came to birth. Landmark agreement on peaceful nuclear cooperation between the UAE & the US government. This agreement will allow the UAE to receive sensitive information and materials from the US to help create the Arab world's first civilian nuclear power industry.

Finally and after months of diplomatic lobbying & campaigning Abu Dhabi was chosen to host the headquarter of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

In an article published in The National on Sunday the 20th Sultan Sooad Al Qassemi said that 2009 is the most important year in the UAE’s foreign relation. I can’t agree more with Sultan and without a doubt we can declare Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed 2009 most influential official in the UAE.

The Political Chart

Radical conservative: being extremely conservative regarding religion, traditions & values.

Radical liberal: being extremely liberal, very open-minded when it comes to religion, traditions & values.

I think that being a radical conservative is almost like being radical liberal. It’s the same because both are radicals.

To map the American political environment in the above chart we will see that the Republican Party represents the Right wing in the United State. On the other hand the Democratic Party represents the left wing in the United State. And it’s clear that the Neo-conservatism are radical conservative.

The 2009 "Rich List"

Arabian Business: "while it takes a very good businessman to make money, it takes a brilliant one to hold on to it when times r tough".

Arabian Business has just released the 2009 “rich list” & guess what, al Waleed is on top as always. No surprise at all but despite the economical situation an increase of his wealth is just unbelievable. While almost half of his wealth is invested in Citigroup, he managed somehow to add nearly one billion dollars to his wealth.

As an Emirati, I noticed that the Galadari family has entered the list for the first time with two billions dollars as net worth. The Galadari’s are known as the exclusive Mazda dealer and a former Ford dealer. An old classic business family which also known as the richest family in Dubai back in the seventies & the eighties when they loaned the government to build Dubai’s first underwater tunnel.

Never Been Forgotten

Summer 1995, my family and I were in Exeter, UK. Though I was 11 at that time but I still remember how hot the weather was. One day I took my 8 years old sister & my 6 years old brother in a walk in the neighborhood. Before doing so we asked my mother for some cash so we can buy some candies from the grocery store. Sadly no cash were given (can’t remember why) but we went without having money. On our way was a nice store which we entered & of course got out without buying any thing. After we got out from the store I was surprised to see my sister eating “kinder surprise” !! I shouted, from where did you get this? From the store shelf she said. I thought if she could do this, I could do it too but with little more. Believe it or not we went back to the store and I got some chocolates & kids small fireworks. The store manager noticed us but he let us go with a plan on his mined. An hour later we were back at home along with my father who left his university for unknown reason. It is not unknow now, he left just to punish us. Thank you dad, it was my first time & my last time to steal.

I still remember the time I saw the movie “The Gladiator” in 2000, I got out from the movie theater and I went to Westlake Center on 4th Ave Pine St, downtown Seattle where I took my strawberry milkshake from starbucks. Then I ran to the bus station as it was raining & getting late. What makes me remember this is the movie & how great it was. Also the weather was good or let's say seems to be good.

The first time I saw Leonardo Dicaprio movie “The Man in the Iron Mask” was in 1999 when I was a high school student. It was Friday & I was home a lone watching this great movie. On that day I was bored so I went to Choithram supermarket in Jumeirah where they have a video store. I was confused, don’t know what to rent after I finished all the James bounds. I used the store phone to call a friend of mine, maybe he will be free, we could get together but he was busy and he recommended this movie. I rented the “The Man in the Iron Mask” VHS tape (no DVD at that time) & went back to home. Ironically the friend who recommended “The Man in the Iron Mask” movie did not see it till recently when I insisted that he should evaluate his own recommendation.

My first job interview, Dubai Customs. After I graduated from the university there was a requirement agency that contacted our college administration and got our contact information. I received a call from this requirement agency, they asked for my CV. What to lose there will be no charges at all so I gave them my CV. Almost two weeks later they scheduled an interview for me with the IT department in Dubai Customs. At that time I did not want to work, I was planning to get a master degree first. Even though I did not wanted this interview I felt like it was the time to test myself & break the fear of the first job interview ever. And there I was, at 9 am sharp I entered the HR department at Dubai Customs HQ. Five minutes later they took me to the meeting room where I waited for an extra 5 minutes. The interview started with two from the HR department & one from the taxation section-IT department. I did a great interview with showoffs but knowing that I had no interest in this job gave me the courage to say whatever I think of this offer. I stood up & said, “This kind of offers is devastating”. Everyone were in shock, the HR secretary called me twice that week to check if I changed my mind. They really needed hire someone it was Dubai peak point.

Halo Halo Halo

Beyonce Halo:
Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light

I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
The risk that I'm takin'
I'm never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
Halo, halo

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Former British PM Tony Blair said it was "right to remove" Saddam from power in Iraq. It was not the WMD that made the war ethical but your desire to remove Saddam made it ethical. Why did you not mention this while you ordered your army to invade Iraq?

Venetian Mask

In my recent trip to Europe I visited Venice, Italy or what’s called Venezia in Italian. It is a city that stretches across 118 small islands. It is known as the “City of Water" or the "City of Bridges". It is a really cool place you don’t want to miss it.

They have an old tradition of wearing a mask in a special carnival so you will find masks for sale everywhere & what better than a Venetian mask as a souvenir.

The Pen That Shapes The Future

What did he think at that time? Did he imagine how powerful his pen was?
Did he think that by signing this decree he will be a legend?
Forming a country exactly 10 years after the falling of the Untied Arab Republic (Egypt & Syria) the first unity in the Arabs recent history. A tiny weak seven tribal emirates into one modern country in which we can truly categorize it as the Arab most successful unity in recent history.

1971 to 2009, it was really great 38 years.
What to expect in the next 38 years?
I’ll it leave to your imaginations.

My imaginations hints or let’s call it hopes
- Much powerful federal government.
- More responsible local government.
- Less differentiation on emirate bases.
- Strong FNC.
- Smart responsible emiratization
- Accountable citizens

A recession proof market

Booking Priorities

Some people don't understand that in the same airline there are different type of business class & first class, an example is emirates airline rout to zurich. emirates has two daily flights to zurich
- EK 087 8:45 am Boeing 777 300ER
- EK 085 4:20 pm Airbus A330-200

in the above mentioned aircraft, there is a very huge difference between business & first class, almost the same in economy.

things that matter whenever a booking is made.
1- price
2- flight timing
3- aircraft type
4- number of stops
5- the airline itself

priorities between the five depends on us, but at least we should have or think of suitable priorities

Yes we can, but we may not succeed

“Yes, we can” & “change” were Obama’s campaign theme for the 2008 presidential elections. After the inauguration of barack obama as the 44th president will it stay possible to believe that “yes, we still can” & “change” may come? I still remember obama’s victory speech when he said clearly & loudly “change has come to america”

Other than his charisma economy, Iraq, Afghanistan & healthcare were why obama was elected. Nearly a year after being in power obama’s efforts were seen almost in every major issues & change has been made on how US foreign policy take place at least this what the noble prize committee think. The first steps were taken, we may disagree if it is enough or not but we for sure agree that steps were taken.

YaaY Lets Do It

Without thinking, we form a team & then “yaay lets do it” foolishly they make a decision to take sides & their only measurement is how cool it is !!! “leave lamees alone” a campaign that held only on T-shirts
http://bit.ly/xND3o

Regardless of what dr. Lamees said & will say. She is well educated rich Emirati with no idea how do middle class in UAE think & live. She represents herself, her husband & the liberal’s minority in UAE.

Else than the electricity & water bills, she did mention “head scarf” & she believe that it is only traditions. At the end it is what she believes in.

Well, I believe in this “while burka & abayya are customs related, head scarves are 100% from islam teachings” note that dr.lamees was not wearing any of the three. So no traditions & no to islam, that what I saw on Oprah

Desert Fox

Field Marshal Erwin Romme also known as the Desert Fox. He was one of Hitler’s high ranking officers & the commander of the Ghost division during the invasion of France. After that he was promoted and appointed commander of the 5th Light Division & then a Field Marshal the commander of the Nazi’s Armey in North of Africa where he got his desert fox nickname.

Just to have an idea, field marshal is the highest rank in the armies, one step above a general & one promotion to marshal. Navies highest rank is "admiral of the Fleet", Air forces highest rank is "marshal of the Air Force"& armies highest is "field marshal"

Last night I watched the first episode of a documentary called “Hitler's warriors documentary ep01field marshal Erwin Rommel”. It was so great I recommend everyone to check it out.

Sometime I want to kill those designers who think that they are artistes. The only link they have to art is the high prices they charge. In fact they are disasters creators or what I would like to call taste terrorist. They are responsible for the outrageous radical taste appearing in the UAE.

And to those who depend on terrorist, just ask yourself “am i looking good” no you look like hell. You have a cheap look even if you spend one million dollars, you still look cheap. Simply because of the no taste situation

Hate & Admiration Comes Together

Whenever the feelings of hate & admiration comes together, there is only one keyword, its “Kissinger”. Dr. Henry Kissinger a jewish German born, former American National Security Advisor & former State Secretary. He was a major foreign policy player 1969-1977 & after that he repeatedly gave advice for all republican administrations

His dirty involvements are clearly seen in the Vietnam’s war, October 73 war, Bangladesh independence and many other conflicts.

There is a book I recommend published in 2001 called “The Trial Of Henry Kissinger” Discuses Kissinger relation to some war crimes.

Carrera Tag Heuer

I was at Tag Heuer store in burjman last night taking my father’s watch to service when I noticed an extraordinary watch. It is a Carrera Tag Heuer, Caliber 16 automatic chronograph movement.

Black dial with 3 counters (hours at 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, minutes at 12 o’clock). Date at 3 o’clock. Circled counters at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. Price as they gave me 15% discount is 10260 AED.

I am still thinking of this watch so I started googleing it to find out more about it. Definitely worth the price

Accommodation

Usually in any trip we spend up to 50% of the total trip cost on accommodation. So if we want to cut cost or if we are having budget problems, accommodation is the magical solution. However no sacrifice is needed. You can play with Quality vs rates.

Depends on your personality & your trip, hotel qualities are different from one to anther, you can hold on some & have sacrifice on others.

What are the major hotel qualities that make difference?
- Hotel location
- Chain brand
- Last renovation
- Hotel style, modern, antique, old classic or standard
- Hotel level, from 5 stars till the 1 star
- Services such as room service, fitness, pool, parking, number of restaurants & bars etc

Some hints while you are looking for accommodations:

- Avoid spending more than 3 nights in major cities such as London, Paris or Rome. You can enjoy better & cheaper hotels in the suburbs or at the airport areas.

- Always book via the internet, early reservation is cheaper & advance payment is the cheapest. You can always play with the flexible/restricted booking type to get good rates.

- Included or excluded breakfast, you can go without breakfast because you will pay the same rate as extra if you want to have it otherwise you can have it someplace else.
